Short stories follow the same blueprint as novels do, but instead of giving the "full" picture, you are giving a glimpse into a specific scene. You can tell a BIG story with few words.
Give your character a single, urgent goal to solve.
Start where the problem arises. Jump right into it!
Have a clear objective that you don't veer from.
Show don't tell. Give the character depth and history IN your story. Don't waste precious words on giving too much back story without progressing the main objective.
End the story with the main objective/problem solved.
